Graphics Samples

I can manipulate graphics and photos for web presention. Although I cannot draw complex illustrations from scratch, I have created or enhanced logos, banners, and icons.

Following are a few samples. While some were done in a prior graphics program, I’m now using Photoshop CS4 and other Adobe Creative Suite programs, and my graphics capabilities are rapidly expanding!

BEFORE (INHERITED)

Earth Night

inherited Earth Night logoThis was the traditionally-used logo that I was requested to retain. However, I got permission to update it.

AFTER

revised logoCreated a new banner logo, incorporating and enhancing the legacy logo and adding overall reflective effects for a new look.

BEFORE (INHERITED)

Silver Cloud Store

original logoThis was the black-and-white, low-resolution graphic that Silver Cloud provided as the original logo (used mostly on flyers). The store sells quality country-western and motorcycle apparel. What the owner especially liked in this image was the inclusion of a motorcycle icon, appealing to part of his customer base.

The owner did not have a better or even a larger copy of this logo, and had no electronic copies of the various store sign graphics. He gave me permission to improve the logo for the website if possible.

AFTER

revised logoBy photographing a larger store sign of the indian chief, I gradually extracted a face. I also photographed two of the painted images on the upper panels of the store window — figures of a cowboy and a motorcycle couple — representing the dual customer base.

Putting these elements together, and enhancing the detail and coloring, I created the new logo for the website. The blue for the Silver Cloud name matches the color tone on the sign above the store. (The owner was very happy!)

BEFORE

Cigar Emporium

No prior graphic logo, but the owner had a black-and-white business card with the store name in the center.

I also gave him advice for the card:
avoid putting text in all four corners.

AFTER

created logo

Matching the font type on his business card, I created a variegated-color name logo for the website. (The color variations suggest the variations in tobacco colors.) I also created a tobacco-leaf icon for quick navigation to the top of the page.

BEFORE

Maria's Custom Fashions

No prior logo.

AFTER

designed logo header

I created this design — including the fabrics details.

BEFORE

margodocs

No prior logo.

AFTER

created logo

This logo was created to convey the multiple possible directions that ‘documentation’ can take. I used the same blue triangles as bullet points for the Overview page.

BEFORE

ELM: Environmental League of Massachusetts

original logoExisting logo; we wanted to keep the basic shape, because the logo has been used in letterhead and print publications for several decades and is well recognized in the environmental community.

ELM-Corporate Council

No prior logo.

AFTER

redesigned logoFor the new website, I enhanced the existing logo, working in concert with our graphics artist for print media — her icons, my concept and adaptation.

My concept for the small icons was to convey that, in addition to its historic role in land protection, the Environmental League today is also involved with contemporary climate and water protection and sustainability issues.

created logoFor a new strategic partnership, the ELM - Corporate Council, I created an associated logo to provide more attention and status.
